Ashley Hickson-Lovence: The 392 (launch)
May 15 - 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Please join us for the Norwich launch of Ashley Hickson-Lovence’s debut – which has been described as “absorbing” (Cathy Rentzenbrink), “wonderfully warm and vivid” (Tony White) and “completely, overwhelmingly in a league of its own” (Candice Carty-Williams)!
Set entirely on a London bus travelling from Hoxton to Highbury and taking place over just 36 minutes, the events of The 392 unfold through a cast of charismatic characters coming from very different worlds. On the 392 are all the familiar faces you might expect to see on any bus ride through inner-city London in the grips of gentrification: delinquent school kids, the high-flyers, the weird, the wonderful and the homeless. These Londoners share two things: a bus journey and a threat. A threat which is ready to blow apart everything they know.
Originally from Hackney, London, Ashley is currently completing his PhD in Creative and Critical Writing at the University of East Anglia. His writing has been shortlisted for Penguin Random House’s WriteNow 2018 programme and he was also a runner-up for the Jericho-Marjacq Bursary for under-represented writers.
Ashley will be in conversation with Cai Draper, a Norwich-based poet from South London who recently completed an MA in Creative Writing (poetry) at the University of East Anglia (you’ve probably heard the name – Draper is making big waves at all of Norwich’s poetry nights, including Volta, Toast and UEA Live).
Expect a fascinating evening as they discuss Ashley’s debut, his writing process, and his experience of being published by indie press OWNIT!
This is a must for any bookish types / aspiring writers in and around Norwich.
6:30pm start (doors approx. 6:15pm).
