Norwich Refugee Week Open Book Club: W.G. Sebald ‘The Emigrants’
June 19, 2019 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

To mark the life, work and legacy of the mighty Winfried Georg Sebald (known as Max to his friends), the Book Hive is running a book club in 2019, from May to October.
This is part of a city-wide celebration that marks what would have been W.G. Sebald’s 75th year. We’re the very proud sponsors of ‘Lines of Sight: Sebald’s East Anglia’, an exhibition at Norwich Castle, and this fascinating show is running concurrently with ‘WG SEBALD: FAR AWAY—BUT FROM WHERE?’, an innovative, cross-disciplinary exhibition at the Sainsbury’s Centre.
To mark Norwich Refugee Week, we’re declaring the first meeting of our book club totally OPEN – even if you haven’t signed up for the year-long package, you can join us and the other members on the 19th of June for a free discussion about The Emigrants: Sebald’s powerful work of fiction on the lives of four Jewish emigrants.
The book is available to purchase at the Book Hive now.
We’ll also have a display throughout Refugee Week of books by refugee witers, and work on the theme of displacement – the evening of the book club will be a wonderful chance to browse these titles, too.
