Richard Lambert: The Wolf Road (Launch Party)
April 16 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
When fifteen-year old Lucas survives the car accident that kills his parents, one memory stays with him – of the wolf that caused the crash. Forced to leave his home and live with his Nan in the Lake District, Lucas struggles to adjust to his strange, new world. And when he learns that a wild creature is killing livestock on the mountains, he knows it’s the wolf, that it’s come for him, and that he must face it. But that means confrontation – with Nan, school bullies, the authorities – and it also means going onto the high fells in a hunt that becomes a matter of life and death…
We are delighted to be launching Richard’s new novel, The Wolf Road at The Book Hive! Described by Andrew Cowan as “moving, menacing… with cinematic clarity” and “beautiful and suspenseful” by Jonathan Stroud, this is a gripping novel about loss, grief, violence and courage – all written with a poet’s eye.
Richard first poetry collection, NIGHT JOURNEY, came out in 2012, and was followed by The Nameless Places in 2017 (we had the launch in the shop; it was one of our busiest events ever!) His work has appeared in the Times Literary Supplement, PN Review, Poetry Review, Poetry Wales, Magma, The Rialto, and the Forward Anthology 2014. He won the Yorkshire Poetry Competition in 2010 and the Kent & Sussex Poetry Competition in 2010. His short story, THE HAZEL TWIG AND THE OLIVE TREE was nominated for the 2017 Sunday Times EFG Short Story Award.
Now, his foray into the novel form marks the advent of an exciting new voice in children’s fiction.
So be sure to join us for what promises to be an inspiring evening, with readings, a Q&A, and a signing.
Doors 6.00pm for a 6.30pm start.
