Sarah Hall – Sudden Traveller
December 5 - 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
The superb and stupendous Sarah Hall hardly needs an introduction – she’s won the Commonwealth Writers Prize, a Society of Authors Betty Trask Award, a Lakeland Book of the Year prize, the Prix Femina Etranger, the John Llewellyn Rhys Prize, the James Tiptree Jr. Award, the Portico Prize for Fiction, been shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award for science fiction, longlisted for the Dublin IMPAC Award, shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize, longlisted for the Orange Prize, shortlisted for The Southbank Sky Arts Awards, and won the 2015 Cumbria Life Culture Awards ‘Writer of the Year’ prize…
…so it goes without saying that we are utterly delighted to be welcoming Sarah back to the shop to celebrate her brand new short story collection Sudden Traveller (which has already been shortlisted for the BBC short story award).
Featuring her signature themes of identity, eroticism and existential quest, these new stories travel far afield in location and ambition – from Turkish forests to rain-drenched Cumbrian villages, Hall’s characters walk, drive, dream and fly, trying to reconcile themselves with their journeys through life, death, and love. Think science fiction meets folktale and philosophy meets mortality!
Hall opens channels in the human mind and spirit and stands with the reader at the very edge of our possible selves… Now if that sounds like your kind of thing (it definitely should!), come and join us for a brilliant evening of discussion, readings and signings!
