Timothy Morton — Hell: In Search of a Christian Ecology

June 12 - 6:30 pm - 8:30 pm

£7.00

Have you heard? Hell is real. And we’re in it.

Mercifully, the brilliant Timothy Morton is here to guide us through!

Join us on Wednesday 12th of June at the beautiful Octagon Chapel, when we’ll be finding out how to escape global warming hell with the help of the revelatory thinker and “philosopher prophet” (The Guardian). Their new book is a radical, mystical marriage of spiritual feelings and biology that awakens a future beyond our current predicament.

Hell is a theological revaluation, furnishing ecological politics with a language of mercy and forgiveness. Written “with” William Blake, it calls for a nonviolent resistance that can stage an all-out assault on the ultimate Satanic mill: the concept of master and slave, manifesting today in white supremacy, patriarchy, and environmental destruction. Passionate, erudite, and playful, Hell takes readers on a full-colour journey into the contemporary underworld — and offers a surprising vision of salvation.

Hell is, among many other things:

  • A call for a world-wide anti-racist environmental movement!
  • A lavish and loving guide to living with the help of William Blake!
  • A weirdly simple fusion of biology and mysticism that puts race and gender issues front and centre!

Far from being dry and academic, Morton’s books and talks are truly radical, encompassing art, ecology, gender, race, politics, and more. Expect dazzling cross-disciplinary lateral leaps and on-point, entertaining cultural references. This won’t be like any other philosophy talk you’ve experienced before.

Timothy lives and works in America, and as such this is one of only two UK events for HellWith no hyperbole, we are incredibly excited about this event: it’s a rare opportunity to hear one of the great thinkers of our time.

Morton will deliver a talk, after which there will be a book signing.

“What a massive relief to have another book about the biggest disasters of our age from the hilarious, wise, and brilliant Timothy Morton. Wild and free, Tim’s ideas give me hope.” — Laurie Anderson
