LIMITED TO JUST 20 PLACES
To mark the life, work and legacy of the mighty Winfried Georg Sebald (known as Max to his friends), we are running a book club in 2019, from May to October.
This is part of a city-wide celebration that marks what would have been W.G. Sebald’s 75th year. The Book Hive are the very proud sponsors of Lines of Sight: Sebald’s East Anglia, an exhibition at Norwich Castle, and this fascinating show is running concurrently with WG SEBALD: FAR AWAY—BUT FROM WHERE?, an innovative, cross-disciplinary exhibition at the Sainsbury’s Centre.
For our Sebald book club, we’ll be focusing on four of Max’s works – Rings of Saturn, Auzterlitz, Vertigo and Emigrants – and we’ll be meeting to discuss them in various ‘Sebaldian spots’ around the city. The lively conversations will be led by Henry Layte, owner of The Book Hive.
Members of the book club – which has limited places – will receive a special Book Hive ‘Max Pack’.
Choose this version if you already own copies of Sebald’s books, but still want to take part. Your pack will include:
– A signed copy of Ariadne’s Thread: In Memory of W.G. Sebald, a memoir by Phillippa Comber (a close friend of Max’s) that describes Sebald at a turning point in his life, as he begins to contemplate writing in a different vein, for himself rather than for academic purposes.
– An invitation to the private launch event of Lines of Sight at Norwich Castle (9th May 2019).
– Tickets for a screening of the film Patience: After Sebald at Cinema City.
Please note dates and locations for both the book club meetings and the extra events are currently TBC (aside from the Lines of Sight launch on the 9th May).
